The musician contributes twenty-five thousand pounds award winnings to small live spaces

The artist has given the complete sum of his £25k award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to protect the UK's independent concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the award on 16 October as his third album his work was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages had in his early career.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous local spots across the UK.

The donation helped spaces that were facing imminent closure due to issues stemming from flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues were granted funding support in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted musicians and fans.

"The notion that money from performances in big venues supports the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is not the first artist to give his honor prize money to good deeds.

When Pulp earned the prize in the mid-90s for their release the album, lead singer Cocker stated that the act would donate their cash to the organization War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her bounty between a few organizations, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they needed better apparatus," she told the media.

Previously, the band donated their winnings to the youth organization that developed their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year the group donated their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated artist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued two small stages in the South East, by placing them under local control.

The first in that area and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
